Now part of Worlds' fan fiction site.
After the Doublesight Wars, dangerous and cruel shape shifters were killed off by the humans. To protect themselves, the other doublesight decided to hide their gifts and congregate into their own villages or clans, and avoid humans. Now new rumors, of violent and dangerous doublesight--gryphons, harpys, dragons--have again riled the humans.
The twin granddaughters of the crow clan's sage, Zimp and Zora, are the last descendants of their powerful shapeshifting family and must help guide their clan. The reticent Zimp is relieved when her sister is chosen to take her grandmother's position instead of herself. When the clan is attacked, Zimp finds Zora murdered. Now Zimp is forced to take over her sisters responsibilities and lead the clan.
The doublesight council assembles to assess the situation with the rumors and they decide to send a team to investigate. This team the council decides will be led by Zimp, and now Zimp must find a way to lead four strong and difficult men in order to help save her people.
Struggling with her own shamanic visions and astute intuition, and trying to hold a stable position as leader, Zimp finds herself in the center of a changing world full of sorcery and must decide on her real place within it...
Doublesight eBook Terry Persun
This book creates a very compelling and immersive world. I loved the dynamic amongst all the main Crow Clan characters. For a story where people can magically turn into different animals, the interpersonal stuff is surprisingly mature. There's a steady stream of action, but that doesn't stop the author from giving us more and more details about the mechanics of this world. There's a heavy burden regarding exposition for the first book in a fantasy saga, and this one fulfills the requirements without being talky or slow-paced. I haven't read any of the other books in the series yet, but I will very soon.Product details

Doublesight eBook Terry Persun Reviews
As an author who enjoys writing across genres, I can appreciate Terry Persun. Normally, a science fiction and literary fiction author, he's treading new ground with Doublesight. He's treading with a pros boots. From shape-shifting to reality-changing, this book will make you think one thing, get comfortable there and then flip you on your head. Great stuff. A must read.
Doublesight is a vividly portrayed world with interesting insights. If you love a good fantasy that has excellent world building- then this is a book worth taking the time to read through. The characters evolve and have depth. The story itself, while clearly fiction, makes you think about how we view things here in our own world. I will definitely be reading the entire rest of the series soon. Well done Terry Persun, looking forward to more of your works )
I really enjoy shape shifter fiction, and in a genre that's weighted down with a propensity for werewolves, I found the unlimited potential of Doublesight to be a refreshing change of pace. First there were crows, then there were lion-wolf hybrids, then there were dragons! I felt like this was a world that literally had no boundaries as far as the imagination could go.
I also enjoyed the fact that this was not your typical sword-and-sorcery style fantasy. There were a lot of names and places to sort through at the beginning, but once I got all the plot threads and characters straight, it was easy to immerse myself in the various levels of politics in this world, from the overarching (a traitor doublesight) to the interpersonal (the mistrust between the various types of doublesight, especially crow Zimp and thylacine Brok) to the personal (Zimp's coming-of-age as a leader of her people and accepting the burden left by her dead twin sister, who also occasionally speaks to her from the other side.)
A great read for anyone looking for something a little off the beaten path in fantasy genre.
Persun thrusts you into the middle of action from page one. Zimp's clan is under attack, and no one knows why.
Wholly human or wholly crow depending on what form she is in, Zimp is a great character, both endearing and aggravating. At first, she is weak and allows a less qualified, but more aggressive clan member, Arren, to make decisions for her.
Brok, a shifter who is also a Thylacine, is also an interesting and vivid character. He is angry, and Zimp is wary of him. His brother is unable to shift back to human, and his tragedy is poignant for every doublesight, whatever species.
Lankor is a doublesight dragon, and is also a great character. He is angry and confused, unable to control his temper as they all seem to be.
Though they are being persecuted, the doublesight have many divisions and rifts among themselves, and must somehow find a way to work together to find out why they are being hunted. This leads to the discovery of a great evil that threatens their very existence.
This book is as much about personalities and the need to remember their own commonality as it is about the great evil that threatens their kind. Each individual is sharply drawn, and has presence, struggling for their own place in their society while their world faces calamity. Zimp and Lankor struggle to do what they know is right, in the face of treachery and occasional bad judgement.
I really enjoyed this book, despite the fact that the ending is a set-up for book two. There is some resolution, it's just not complete, and there is ample room for more story. I always have mixed feelings about that sort of ending for the first book in a series, but despite that one minor flaw, this is an awesome book, and I think it is one of the better fantasy books I've read lately. There is nothing stale, or been-done-before in this tale. I will definitely be reading The Memory Tower.
